Lakeshore Corridor Transportation Improvements

Infrastructure projects designed to create a more complete and connected Lakeshore Corridor.

Lakeshore Transportation Studies

The Lakeshore Transportation Studies include three infrastructure projects in the Lakeview, Port Credit and Clarkson communities that build from the 2019 Lakeshore Connecting Communities Transportation Master Plan. Each project requires a specific type of environmental review.

1. Lakeshore Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Study

The City of Mississauga is developing the preliminary design and completing the Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP) for the Lakeshore Bus Rapid Transit Project (BRT). The Lakeshore BRT is planned to run for two kilometres along Lakeshore Road from the Etobicoke Creek to East Avenue. This project has received funding through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) and will have an expedited timeline for development. For more information about the funding granted to the City of Mississauga through the ICIP, please read the news release issued by the City in January 2021.

A Notice of Completion was issued for the BRT Study on July 27, 2023, and an Environmental Project Report (EPR) is now available for public review until August 28, 2023.

2. Lakeshore Complete Street Study

The City is also developing the preliminary design and completing the Schedule C Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for Lakeshore Road and Royal Windsor Drive. This study will consider a ‘Complete Street’ approach to improve the experience for people travelling along the Lakeshore corridor from East Avenue to the Oakville border.

3. New Credit River Active Transportation Bridge Study

The City is developing the preliminary design and completing the Schedule B Class EA for a new Active Transportation bridge over the Credit River north of Lakeshore Road. This bridge will enhance mobility across the river for people walking, rolling and cycling.

A Notice of Completion was issued for the New Credit River AT Bridge Study on February 2, 2023. The public review period for the Project File Report (PFR) closed on March 6, 2023.

Public engagement

Public and stakeholder consultation is an essential component of the Lakeshore Transportation Studies.

The first community meeting for the three projects that make up the Lakeshore Transportation Studies was held virtually on September 28, 2021. A virtual open house was also available on-demand from September 2 through September 30, 2021.

The second community meeting for the Lakeshore Transportation Studies projects was held virtually on March 30, 2022. A second virtual open house was also available on-demand from March 21 through April 8, 2022.

An online survey that sought to gather on the design elements of the proposed Active Transportation bridge was available between April 26 and May 10, 2022. Additionally, an online Active Transportation Bridge Design Workshop was held on May 3, 2022.
