Proposed City-initiated Zoning By-law amendments

The City periodically amends the Zoning By-law to:

  • Clarify wording
  • Update definitions
  • Delete or modify outdated regulations
  • Address new trends

The following proposed Zoning By-law amendments have been initiated by the City:

The City is proposing to amend the Mississauga Official Plan and Zoning By-law to:

  • Reduce the number of residential detached dwelling zones
  • Reduce minimum lot frontage and minimum lot area requirements
  • Introduce semi-detached dwellings as a permitted use in detached dwelling zones
  • Amend maximum dwelling heights for detached and semi-detached dwellings

The City of Mississauga is proposing to change the driveway regulations in the Zoning By-law for low- and medium-density residential zones.

By-law

The City of Mississauga is proposing the following changes to the Zoning By-law:

  • Adding or amending the definition of:
    • Ancillary Crisis Shelter
    • Auxiliary Uses
    • Bicycle Parking Space
    • Front Lot Line
    • Porch
  • Amending the Certificate of Occupancy regulation to better reflect instances of multiple uses on a lot
  • Updating the General Provisions section to add or amend regulations for Public School, Private School, Essential Emergency Service, Ancillary Crisis Shelter, Transitional Housing, and Temporary Buildings and Structures
  • Excluding required overnight accommodation for bicycle parking spaces pertaining to non-residential uses
  • Adding regulations, and location criteria, to permit Play Equipment in all residential built forms
  • Amending the regulations for Retail Store to increase the permitted seating for food consumption from six to 25 seats
  • Deleting the redundant O1-8 Exception and G1-2 Exception zones

The City of Mississauga is proposing the following changes to the Zoning By-law to:

  • Amend the City’s Zoning By-law to expand Precinct 1 to include all Protected Major Station Transit Areas (PMTSAs)
  • Eliminate all residential and non-residential minimum parking requirements in Precinct 1 in accordance with Bill 185 (Cutting Red Tape to Build More Homes Act)
