Green development standards are measures used by developers to achieve environmentally, socially and economically sustainable design and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The City has updated our standards to a framework of mandatory and voluntary measures to meet goals in our Climate Change Action Plan. Council approved the update in April 2024.
All new residential and non-residential site plan approval applications submitted on or after March 1, 2025, have to comply with Tier 1 green development standards.
Tier 2 standards will be mandatory in 2028 and Tier 3 standards in 2030. They are voluntary until then.
