Mississauga is experiencing heavy rain which has caused localized flooding in areas across the city. It has also caused traffic disruptions, dangerous road conditions and closures.

All creeks and rivers throughout Mississauga are either at capacity or flooding into parks, and greenspaces.

Update as of August 17 at 4:30 p.m.

A heavy rainfall warning remains in effect for Mississauga throughout the course of the weekend. Local rainfall amounts may range from 100 to 200 mm.  As a result of changing weather conditions, City crews are responding to service requests related to:

• flooding issues on sidewalks, roads, parks and trails
• maintenance hole covers being dislodged
• clearing blocked catch basins
• assisting Peel Regional Police with road closures

• Britannia/Convair Dr. closed to Renforth Rd./Convair Dr.
• Convair Dr. between Renforth Rd. and Britannia Rd. E.
• Dixie Rd./Dundas St.
• Hurontario St./Centre View Dr.
• King St.
• Mavis Rd./Lafayette Dr.
• Rathburn Rd. W./Elora Dr.
• Rathburn Rd./Sherwoodtowne Blvd.
• Rathburn Rd./Station Gate Rd.

Trail closures

Residents are asked to take precautions in flooded areas, respect all posted signs and barricades that have been put up for safety reasons.

For safety, residents are asked to avoid all parks and trails in the areas surrounding the following creeks and watersheds:

• 16-mile creek
• Cooksville Creek
• Credit River
• Little Etobicoke Creek
• Mimico Creek
• Sawmill Creek

Sports fields

For safety, all City sports fields are closed until Monday, August 19.

Airport

If you’re travelling to Toronto Pearson Airport, be sure to allow yourself extra time to arrive safely as roads and travel will be much slower due to the current weather conditions.

Safety measures

Remember to monitor Environment Canada for weather warnings and watches in Mississauga. Avoid dialling 911 unless you’re in immediate danger or require assistance with rescue or evacuation.

Exercise caution

• Avoid stormwater ponds, culverts, streams and rivers
• Do not open sewer grates
• Never travel through flooding or areas where there is ponding
• Be sure that roof water drains
• Ensure eavestroughs and downspouts are clear
• Keep storm drains free of litter and debris
• Report blocked storm drains to 311
• Use caution when travelling in areas where flooding has or could occur
• If you are driving, travel to conditions, leave extra space for stopping, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop
• If walking or cycling, use designated crosswalks or crossrides, do not enter flooded areas
• Report any fallen trees and flooding to 311
• Report power outages to Alectra

• Report safety hazards, such as fallen trees, or weather-related issues, such as drainage or flooding, to 311
• 311 may receive many weather-related calls, which may result in longer wait times than usual. We appreciate your patience as we process these calls

If your home or basement has flooded

• Remember to be careful
• Call 311 to report it
• Don’t attempt to shut off electricity if any water is present
• If water rose above your electrical outlets, baseboard or furnace, call Alectra immediately at 1-833-253-2872 to report it
• If you live in a condo or apartment, please contact property management if you are currently displaced from your home
