The City of Mississauga has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2024-2027 Business Plan & 2024 Budget document. This is the 36th consecutive year that Mississauga has received this award, the most won by a Canadian municipality. It is also the second award for Mississauga’s modernized budget document, which is now more focused, shorter and easier to read. The award recognizes the City’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting while ensuring that the budget document serves not only as a financial plan, but also as a policy document, an operations guide, and a communications device for its residents, businesses and stakeholders.
The Canadian Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Mississauga for presenting the 2022 Financial and Sustainability Report in a clear, concise and informative manner. This is the 26th consecutive year that the City has received this award. In 2020, the City began reporting on sustainability-related activities and continues to apply sustainability considerations in planning and reporting activities, including in its Strategic Plan, several master plans and various other initiatives.
The Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award was received for the 2022 Financial Report Highlights document which is a condensed and impactful synopsis of the City’s 2022 Financial and Sustainability Report. This award recognizes the City’s strong ability to produce a report that is not only accessible but is also easy to read and understand by residents who may not have an advanced understanding of municipal finance. This is the seventh consecutive year that Mississauga has received this award.
The City’s budget and financial reporting activities shape and direct how the City works. The continued recognition from GFOA reflects decades of thoughtful municipal planning, budgeting and fiscal discipline practised by Mississauga’s Council and the City’s leadership team.
