Camp Ignite is returning for its fourth year and this time, there’s an added leadership component. From July 15 to 19, Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services (MFES) is hosting a five-day camp for teenage girls ages 15 to 19. The camp will provide an introduction to the world of firefighting and inspire them to follow their dreams.
In addition to learning various skills in auto extrication, wall rappelling and forcible entry throughout the camp, the teens will also learn about teamwork, nutrition and health.
Every morning will start with a motivational talk to empower the girls throughout the day. On Friday, July 19, youth motivational speaker Joe Beckman will talk about kindness, inclusion and connection.
Camp Ignite is led by Captain Shelli Varela – Mississauga’s first female firefighter and fire captain.
