Mississauga City Council has approved the 2016 Business Plan and Budget. The impact of the budget is a $77 increase on the City’s portion of the property tax on an average residential property valued at $535,000.
“Mississauga’s 2016 Budget is a solid financial plan for our thriving city that paves the way for our promising future,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “We heard from residents about their funding priorities and together we have put forward a fiscally-responsible budget that invests in local priorities including building infrastructure, expanding public transit and delivering the right services for residents.”
In 2016, Mississauga residents can expect to see 28,000 more transit service hours, three new Transitway stations, road and traffic improvements and continued delivery of all the services they depend on including winter road maintenance, libraries, parks and forestry, fire and emergency services and recreation programming.
“Our steadfast commitment to fiscal responsibility and innovation continues to yield positive results,” said Janice Baker, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. “We have been able to identify $4.7 million in cost savings, which is equivalent to reducing the City tax levy by 1.1 per cent as well as wisely invest our limited resources for improvements in key areas like transit and infrastructure.”
