Prepare your home for basement flooding

It’s a great time to prepare your home in the event you encounter basement flooding.

Here are three helpful tips on how you can do this:

1. Have the right insurance

2. Disconnect your roof downspouts

If your downspouts are still connected to the standpipes against your home, consider facing them towards your lawn or garden at least two metres from the house – or into a rain barrel or raingarden. Be sure that the water doesn’t flow onto adjacent properties, driveways or sidewalks.

3. Report blocked catch basins, creeks or culverts

You can report blocked catch basins, creeks or culverts to 311 or online or report a catch basin or culvert problem online.
