Today, MiWay service begins on the Mississauga Transitway with stops at the new Central Parkway, Cawthra, Tomken and Dixie stations. MiWay reminds customers of the safety rules on the transitway and is working in partnership with area police services and transit enforcement to ensure the transitway is safe for everyone.
“The safety of our customers and transit operators is our first priority. This new dedicated bus corridor is for buses and authorized vehicles only,” said Geoff Marinoff, Director, Transit. “For safety reasons, pedestrians, cyclists and private vehicles are not permitted on it.”
Customers can travel on the transitway by taking MiExpress Routes 107 – Malton Express, 109 – Meadowvale Express and MiLocal Route 21; bypassing traffic between the City Centre and Dixie Road. The first bus on the transitway was the 109 at 4:30 a.m.
To ensure safe travelling on the Mississauga Transitway customers and Mississauga residents are reminded of the following:
Phase 1 will make commutes more efficient by avoiding congestion east of the city centre. Real time savings will occur when the 18 kilometre transitway and all 12 stations open in 2017.
