If you’re applying for a building permit you may be required to submit a fire access route application. Fire access routes are needed so emergency vehicles can approach a building unobstructed.
To apply for a fire access route, you’ll need to send us the following:
- A completed Fire Access Route Application Form and the required fee of $270.94.
- A simplified drawing of the site plan showing the roads or driveways which will be assigned as the fire route:
Drawing guidelines
Your drawing should include the following:
- Building outline
- Principal entrances
- Fire hydrants
- Fire department connection
- Fire access route
- Parking (including parking spaces) which borders the fire route
- Municipal street access points and the municipal address
Drawings should not be larger than 21 cm in width and 24 cm in height, so we can transfer the drawing onto a Mylar sheet.
Your drawing can be a simplified copy of your previously approved site development plan or a redrawn duplicate. Your drawing doesn’t need to be to a specific scale, but you must keep the relative scale between the different site components.
How to submit your application
You can submit your completed application form and drawings by email to fire.prevention@mississauga.ca. If submitting via email, you can pay your fee over the phone by calling 905-896-5908.
You can also apply by mail and pay your fee by cheque (made payable to the ‘City of Mississauga’) by sending it to:
Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services
Fire Prevention and Risk Reduction Division
300 City Centre Drive, 2nd floor
Mississauga, Ontario L5B 3C1
What happens next
Once we approve your application, we’ll send the approved fire route plan to the owner of the property, or the owner’s agent, along with a list of sign suppliers and detailed installation guidelines.
When the access route is completed and the correct signs installed, Fire Prevention and Parking Control staff will perform a final site inspection, which is required before you can begin any enforcement of the area.
