The City of Mississauga has selected Jason Bevan as the new Director, City Planning Strategies effective October 15, following a national hiring competition. Bevan replaces Andrew Whittemore who became the Commissioner, Planning and Building in April 2018.
“Mississauga is a vibrant urban centre and we need to continue long-term planning for this growth,” said Andrew Whittemore, Commissioner of Planning and Building. “I’m very pleased that Jason will be leading our City Planning Strategies Division. Jason brings strong leadership in growth management, municipal finance, development feasibility and economic impact assessment. These are important factors for planning, innovating and developing sustainable plans to guide Mississauga’s growth.”
Bevan will be responsible for managing all business functions of the City Planning Strategies Division. This includes overseeing the City’s Official Plan, neighbouhood plans, special planning studies, community engagement, the growth forecast and land use data and analysis.
Bevan has extensive professional consulting experience with community improvement plans, economic development, municipal long-range planning and development charges most recently with Hemson Consulting Ltd. In this role, his clients included the Ministry of Transportation, Region of Peel, Toronto Economic Development Corporation and several cities in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Prior to his work with Hemson Consulting Ltd., Bevan worked as an Associate with R.E. Millward & Associates.
In addition to his professional work, Bevan has taught on municipal finance at both Ryerson University and York University. He has also presented at conferences about the connection between municipal planning and financial policies.
Bevan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics as well as a Master of Environmental Studies (Planning) degree both from York University. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP) and is a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute.
