Mississauga Named a Top7 Intelligent Community of the Year

Business and innovation | July 9, 2021

The Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) has selected the City of Mississauga as one of the Top7 Intelligent Communities of the Year. The Top7 announcement marks the second stage in the ICF’s annual Intelligent Community Awards cycle. ICF selects seven finalists to receive this recognition, based on a survey of communities from around the world.

“This is a significant milestone for Mississauga,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “As Canada’s most connected city, Mississauga has leveraged its connectivity to support many sectors, including small business, educational institutions and our vital life sciences industry. We are laser-focused on the high-tech future of this great city as we continue to attract new businesses and investment, and look forward to evolving as an intelligent community.”

In March 2021, the ICF selected Mississauga as one of the Smart21 Intelligent Communities of the Year.

“We were honoured to receive the Smart21 award in March,” said Shawn Slack, Director of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. “Now we are ecstatic to have made the Top7 Communities of the Year. This is proof that Mississauga is truly coming into its own as a Smart City for everybody – one that focuses on digital innovation, accessibility and transparency.”

One of the Top7 Communities will be chosen as the Intelligent Community of the Year. This is the final stage in ICF’s annual Community Awards cycle, to be announced in the fall.

Looking ahead, residents will have an opportunity to provide input into a new Smart City Policy being developed over the next year.
