City of Mississauga Adjusts City Services According to New Provincial COVID-19 Measures

Today, the Government of Ontario announced new restrictions to respond to increasing COVID-19 case numbers and slow the spread of the Omicron variant in the province.

“The City of Mississauga supports the restrictions announced today,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “While I know this is not the holidays we all imagined, I am hopeful that these measures act as the ‘circuit breaker’ we need to curb the rapid spread of the Omicron variant. We need to ensure we are doing all we can to slow the spread of this very transmissible strain of COVID-19 and protect the capacity of our hospital system. Please use every tool at your disposal. Follow public health measures including getting your booster if you are eligible, reducing your contacts and taking advantage of the province’s free rapid tests if gathering with family and friends. Please consider smaller gatherings this holiday season to help protect the progress we’ve made and our family, friends and neighbours.”

Starting Sunday, December 19, the Government of Ontario is introducing a 50 per cent capacity limit in certain indoor public settings. These include:

• Gyms
• Indoor recreational amenities
• Marinas and boating clubs
• Personal care services
• Restaurants and bars
• Retailers (including grocery stores and pharmacies)

These limits do not apply to any portion of a business or place that is being used for a wedding, funeral or  religious ceremony.

Additional protective measures are also being applied:

• The number of patrons permitted to sit at a table will be limited to 10 people and patrons will be required to remain seated in restaurants and bars.
• Bars, restaurants, meeting and event spaces will be required to close by 11 p.m.
• Take out and delivery will be permitted beyond 11 p.m.
• The sale of alcohol will be restricted after 10 p.m. and consumption of alcohol in businesses or settings after 11 p.m.
• Food and drink services will be prohibited at indoor sporting events and concert venues.

Update on City services as of Sunday, December 19:

• In accordance with the Provincial Regulations, the City of Mississauga Recreation and Culture facilities will limit overall capacity to 50 per cent.
• The 50 per cent capacity limit applies to Raptors 905 (NBA G League), Mississauga Steelheads (OHL) and other live event partners, at our live event venues, including the Paramount Fine Foods Centre and the Living Arts Centre.  Any impacted ticket holders will be contacted in advance regarding refund information.
• No food or beverages will be available during indoor  events as concessions will be temporarily closed. Spectators must remain seated during any events and wear a mask at all times.
• Meeting spaces at City of Mississauga facilities will close by 11 p.m.
• The City of Mississauga will not be implementing any additional reservation requirements for drop-in programs and activities at this time. These programs and activities can be accessed on a first-come, first served basis.
