Treatment areas and overview
In 2022, the aerial spray program was conducted in areas of Mississauga predicted to see severe leaf loss from Spongy Moth caterpillar feedings. The area was roughly 2,100 hectares (5,189 acres) of private and public land in Wards 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.
Highly trained spray specialists contracted by the City used a helicopter to administer treatment, with all necessary safety precautions taken to ensure minimal risk to the public and the applicators.
The spray window was from May to June 2022.
Based on the success of the 2022 aerial spray program, annual population predictions for Mississauga and regional outlook, an aerial spray is not required in 2023. Learn more about Spongy Moth and what the City’s doing.
