Stay Active This Winter in Mississauga

Entertainment and activities | November 28, 2022

Here in Mississauga, we are used to cold, dark, snowy winters, but we don’t let that damper the fun! Our community is filled with fun activities to do, whether inside where it’s warm and dry or bundled up outside.

To help inspire you this winter, we put together a list of what we think are some great, must-try activities this winter.

Take in the sights and lace up your skates at Celebration Square

Celebration Square offers fun for all in the heart of downtown Mississauga and is the perfect spot for a winter outing, day or night!

Enjoy a Canadian classic: grab a hot chocolate and hit the ice! You don’t need to be an expert skater to hit the outdoor rink and enjoy the vibe at Celebration Square. Skate rentals are available on site, or you can bring your own. Skating is free and open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

In the evenings, Celebration Square is illuminated with dazzling lights and art installations to make your time even more spectacular.

This year, you can also catch select FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ screenings on the Celebration Square big screens. Public viewings are free and totally accessible – just make sure to dress for the weather!

Slide into winter fun on a toboggan/sledding hill

Nothing makes you feel young and free like sliding down a hill on a toboggan! Mississauga has six toboggan hills for you to enjoy when the weather is right:

Tour our local public art collection

Mississauga is home to an incredible collection public art scattered across the City. Bundle up, grab a warm drink and get out for a walk to visit some of your favourite pieces!

Plan ahead: check out our public art map to see where each piece is located and plan your own walk!

Put on your boots and hit the trails

Mississauga has some great winter trails for you to explore. Bundle up and enjoy a beautiful walk in the sunshine and cool winter air!

Check out Walk and Roll Peel’s Trail Map to find a great trail in your area.

Head down to a local rink – indoors or out!

Mississauga is home to more than 30 natural ice rinks in neighbourhood parks across the city. Each rink is complete with rink boards, a heated rink hut, and community volunteers who maintain the natural ice surface.

Our community centres also offer hockey and skating programs for all ages and skill levels. Visit Active Mississauga to find a drop in program that is right for you.

If you’re looking to keep busy but aren’t a fan of the cold, we have some great ideas for you:

Learn something new

They say there’s no time like the present, and there is nothing like a fun class to get you out of the house! Mississauga Libraries and Community Centres have classes for every age and every interest. Knit and crochet for adults, computer basics for older adults, and chess, cypher coding and writing club for youth and tweens! The Library also offers online courses to help you develop new skills from the comfort of your home.

Stay active and keep fit

Drop in to a fitness class at one of our Community Centres, or plan ahead and book for the season. Try something new and fun, like Bollywood Fitness or Drumming, or go with an old classic like a boot camp, yoga or cycle class.

Get in some social time

Take part in one of the countless social activities offered around the city! We’ve got euchre, cribbage, bridge and billiards for older adults, board game nights for the family, and open mic, gaming, and trivia sessions for teens!
