Get Charged Up! City’s Partnership with Alectra Brings More EV Chargers to Mississauga

Environment | November 29, 2022

If you’re spending time in downtown Mississauga and need to charge your electric vehicle, the City of Mississauga and Alectra Utilities have got you covered! Check out our 10 new Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations located in the Celebration Square South parking garage.

The City is partnering with Alectra Utilities on the AlectraDrive@Work  initiative. By expanding our EV charging network, the AlectraDrive@Work  project is helping to support the City’s commitment to fighting climate change by reducing GHG emissions while providing an expanded service for employees and visitors and enhancing our energy performance.

The charging stations, located on the P3 level of the parking garage (under the Hazel McCallion Central Library), are operational and available for public use. Parking fees will apply.

The new EV chargers add to the growing number of public charging stations available to Mississauga residents. Other City-owned EV chargers include:

  • 8 ports at Sheridan College Hazel McCallion Campus in Mississauga’s downtown core
  • 4 ports at 7 Water Street Municipal Parking lot 321 in StreetsvilleAs more than 30 per cent of Mississauga’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions come from transportation, electrification of vehicles is an important way to reduce emissions. In addition to the City-owned chargers, over 400 EV chargers can be found along Mississauga’s highways, roadways, malls and other destination points.

As the City of Mississauga advances the goals of the Peel Zero Emission Vehicle Strategy, public/private partnerships are playing an increasingly important role. They are helping the City move forward in reducing emissions and achieving its climate change goals which are outlined in the City’s Climate Change Action plan (CCAP). With each project and partnership, Mississauga gets one step closer to reaching its GHG emission reduction targets.

With the support of public/private partnerships, Mississauga is becoming more and more electrifying!
