City of Mississauga Celebrates International Women’s Day With a Number of Events Around the City

The City of Mississauga will celebrate International Women’s Day on Wednesday, March 8 with a number of events to recognize the many women who have helped shape Mississauga into the city it is today. The City of Mississauga’s Civic Centre clock tower will be lit purple on March 8 to commemorate International Women’s Day.

“The City of Mississauga celebrates International Women’s Day, and the significant impact women have made and continue to make in shaping and building our city today and for the future,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “We are proud of the contributions of the many women who have helped make our city great, including the strong leaders we have here at the City of Mississauga. I encourage all Mississaugans to #EmbraceEquity in our workplaces and in our communities not only on IWD but year-round.”

Mayor’s Annual IWD Breakfast
Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie will be hosting her annual International Women’s Day Young Women’s Empowerment Breakfast on March 8. The event, now in its seventh year, inspires and offers a networking opportunity for young female students across the City. Students will have an opportunity to interact and exchange dialogue with other City female leaders attending. This year’s guest keynote speaker will be Lesley Hampton, an Anishinaabe breakthrough fashion designer. The event will also feature Brianna Olson-Pitawanakwat, a Jingle Dress dancer and member of Wiikwemkoong Unceded First Nation.

IDEA Women’s Conference
IDEA Mississauga is hosting a Women’s Conference – Embracing Equity in Life Sciences on Tuesday, March 7, beginning at 9 a.m. The conference will showcase women leaders in Mississauga’s life science sector who will share information, experiences and insight on how they cultivate a culture which embraces equity in the workplace. Raptors 905 International Women’s Day Game – March 8
Raptors 905 will host the Delaware Blue Coats on Wednesday, March 8 at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre at 7:30 p.m. Raptors 905 recognize the achievements of women in Canada and continuously push the boundaries around gender bias, aiming to create a world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. MiWay
On March 8, MiWay Transit Operators will have the option to display “International Women’s Day” on the electronic destination signs on the front and curbside of the bus as an additional message to the service information.
