Overview
In 2012, the City of Mississauga completed a Flood Evaluation Study for Cooksville Creek. This study recommended potential stormwater management facility locations to mitigate flood risks within the Cooksville Creek watershed.
McKenzie Park was selected as one of the locations for an underground stormwater management facility. Flows will be diverted to this facility to control the volume pressures on the City’s stormwater system.
The McKenzie Park stormwater management facility will be located on the east side of the park near Mississauga Valley Boulevard. It will have the capacity to store approximately 6,500 cubic metres of stormwater. Construction of the facility is planned to begin in Summer 2023.
The project will include the following:
- Removal of existing structures and trees within the facility location area
- Installation of the underground stormwater facility located in the park and installation of intake and outlet structures located in the Mississauga Valley Boulevard roadway
- Backfilling and regrading of the park
- Replacement of all removed structures
- Additional landscaping including new trees and shrubs within the park and boulevard
Benefits
- Reduced risk of flooding in the Cooksville Creek watershed located downstream of McKenzie Park
- New landscaping within the east side of McKenzie Park
- Improved drainage within the park following rainfall events
