About provincial offences

You could receive a provincial offence fine or ticket for violating provincial laws under the Provincial Offences Act (POA) or for certain municipal matters. Examples of these types of violations include:

  • Speeding or careless driving
  • Handheld device charges, such as talking, texting or holding your phone while driving
  • Not wearing a seat belt
  • Failing to stop at a stop sign or red light
  • Driving a vehicle without insurance on a public road
  • Failing to maintain a smoke alarm
  • Smoking or vaping in a public park

What to do if you get a ticket

If you get a provincial offence ticket you have three options to resolve it. Choose an option within 15 days from the date you received your ticket:

If you ignore or fail to respond to a ticket, you could be charged additional fines, or your driver’s licence could be suspended.
