Employment Sites Review: In-person information sessions

Over the past few months, City and Regional staff have been reviewing three SmartCentres sites to evaluate whether mixed-use development – including new housing – is appropriate for those areas. One site is located on Argentia Road and Winston Churchill Blvd., and the other two sites are on Burnhamthorpe Road West.

The review began after SmartCentres made a request to remove all three sites from Mississauga employment areas. Peel Regional Council directed staff to study the request. If the City and Regional Council approve the removal of these sites from employment areas, any future redevelopment could include a broader mix of uses such as homes, office space and retail uses.

There are two ways to learn more about the results of the City’s review, our recommendations for the future of each site and next steps.

Mississauga Green Development Standards Update

Buildings are one of the biggest greenhouse gas emitters. If we build them better, they will be better for the planet and save everyone money. Don’t miss this opportunity to share your thoughts about Mississauga’s Green Development Standards.

Our Green Development Standards (GDS) will help our community cut down on harmful emissions and better prepare for climate change impacts. GDS are mandatory and voluntary standards which help ensure new private buildings are good for everyone – nature, people, and our local economy.

Take part in our GDS online survey, tell us your priorities and share your ideas.

You can comment on:

• Benefits – Includes lower energy costs, improved comfort, power during outages, and renewable energy use
• Climate impacts – Including air quality, greenhouse gases, and cool temperature materials
• Ecology and natural systems – Includes tree health, green roofs, biodiversity, and bird-friendly designs

The survey ends Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

Port Credit Proposed Marina

The City has plans to build a new marina and waterfront park at 1 Port Street East in Port Credit. An Environmental Assessment (EA), a public consultation and a review of the impact of the proposal on the environment need to be done before the City moves ahead.

This project includes adding soil to the lake to create new land along the existing break wall. This will provide an opportunity to continue the site’s historic marina function, support marina and business activity, create new a waterfront park and improve habitat. The site is one of the few deep-water harbours on the north shore of Lake Ontario and an important part of Mississauga’s tourism and waterfront parks strategies.

Participate anytime from Thursday, September 14 to Monday, October 23, 2023.

1. Take part in the virtual Public Information Centre #3. View the project documents, including the online presentation and draft EA document, and share your feedback through the Proposed Marina online survey.
2. The City will be holding a pop-up event with staff available to answer questions and discuss the project. Pop-up event details will be made available on the project website.

City Asset Naming Review

The City owns many things, from roads to parks, community centres and buildings. Do you know how we give them names?

We’re reviewing how we name these assets to ensure we have an equitable, diverse and inclusive approach to naming city assets in the future.

Climate Change Action Plan

Everybody has a role to play and we want to hear from you! The City is updating the Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) to set more ambitious targets aligned with the IPCC’s recommendations aimed at limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Share your feedback on the current Climate Change Action Plan and contribute any ideas you have to improve it.

Upon completion of the survey, you will have a chance to enter into a random draw to win one out of 10 $100 pre-loaded Presto cards.

Have thoughts on outdoor dining? We understand that these patios have become a beloved part of our city’s dining experience, creating a lively and vibrant atmosphere. We’re working on updates to our patio by-law. Take our online survey and tell us what you think.
