Volunteer at the City!

April 14 to 20 is National Volunteer Week in Canada. Looking to get involved? Volunteer at the City of Mississauga.

City services | April 9, 2024

While Mississauga’s volunteers deserve our appreciation all year long, April in particular is a time to recognize all their hard work, and perhaps consider taking on a volunteer opportunity yourself. On Sunday, April 14, the City of Mississauga will be lighting the Civic Centre clock tower green in recognition of National Volunteer Week, April 14 to 20. This is a time to celebrate Canada’s hardworking volunteers and the work they do to make the world a better place.

Volunteering at the City

The City offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for those looking to get involved. Whether you’re a high school student completing volunteer hours or a resident looking to meet new people with similar interests, gain new skills or turn your hobby into a way to give back, there is something for you. Check out the City’s current volunteer opportunities below.

Put that green thumb to work

Volunteer to improve Mississauga’s parks and natural areas:

Love animals?

Volunteer with Mississauga’s Animal Services:

  • Foster a pet. Help an animal find its forever home by caring for them until they are ready for adoption. Volunteering as a foster parent is also a great way to learn more about caring for a pet before making a long-term commitment.
  • Help save wildlife in Mississauga by becoming a volunteer driver for Animal Services. You must have a valid licence and car insurance to participate. Call 311 or email mypet.info@mississauga.ca for details.

Calling all future lifeguards!

Training to become a lifeguard? If you’re at least 13 years old and have your Bronze Medallion training, you can apply to become a volunteer junior instructor at one of the City’s community centre pools. Working with City lifeguards and instructors, successful candidates will gain valuable knowledge and experience assisting with teaching and supervision of swimming lessons.

Enthusiastic about working with kids and youth?

This summer, make a difference in your community and have fun at the same time! Volunteer at one of the City’s summer camps this July and August. This opportunity is open to those 14 years old and older. Join a great team, develop your leadership skills and have a positive impact on Mississauga’s kids and youth. Keep an eye out for applications opening later this spring!

Join the 50 for 50 Challenge

Mississauga turns 50 this year! We have a lot to be thankful for so why not pay it forward and give back to the community. Take part in our 50 for 50 Challenge and make a positive impact. Every effort counts!

Volunteer opportunities are posted online frequently. Remember to check the City’s volunteer website throughout the year to see how you can help.
