About the artwork

“This isn’t just another rainbow road. This is what joy in the 2SLGBTQ+ community looks like! With this mural I wanted to envision the magical places where 2SLGBTQ+ folks can come together to share in safe space. Where they can blissfully release and feel like their true selves without fear of judgment. Moving together, crashing to the same beat, finding joy and pride for who they are. Each so different, yet finding community, and chosen family in one place and feeling held. These are the spaces 2SLGBTQ+ folks need more than ever.” – Vivian Rosas

The City of Mississauga received almost 400 responses to a public vote, selecting Streetsville Village Square for this mural. Seventy participants joined virtual dance and drawing classes, where they connected and helped the artist envision the mural’s final design.

In 2022, the Creative City Network of Canada awarded the City of Mississauga with the Public Art Sustainability Award of Excellence for Blissful Release. This award recognizes a Canadian municipality that demonstrated visionary leadership by supporting an excellent program and process that led to a successful public art project.

About the artist

Vivian Rosas is a queer Mestizx/Latinx multidisciplinary artist who seeks to explore themes of feminism, empowerment, and diversity within her work. Her goal is to create imagery that expresses a sense of inclusiveness for underrepresented communities. Her practices include illustration, murals, and dance.
