LED lights, sound, electronics
2023
“Luxonus” visualizes vivid sounds as the movement of light through a web of LEDs. The resulting multisensory spectacle is an invitation to audiences to consider the presence and absence of light in how they perceive the world.
Using cyclical light and dark in its design, “Luxonus” emphasizes the opportunities for renewal that this cycle presents. The cycle of light and dark, as shown in the installation as well as every day in nature, gives us the opportunity to let go of the past and embrace new possibilities. Installation viewers are invited to verbally let go something from their own past, triggering a corresponding, unique audiovisual response in the installation.
Originally conceived during the artists’ Master’s studies at Berklee College of Music Valencia in 2022, previous iterations of “Luxonus” have already been shown as part of INOCON at Centro del Carmen de Cultura Contemporánea in Valencia, Spain; at LUMEN Festival in Waterloo, Ont.; Open Ears in Kitchener, Ont.; and at Lumiere: The Art of Light in Toronto.
Luxonus Collective is an international audiovisual group utilizing multi-channel video and audio, projection mapping, DMX lighting, and programming to design conceptual media art experiences. Their signature installation, Luxonus, has been mounted in Spain and Canada.
Alex is an audiovisual artist, music producer and DJ. Originating from Guelph, Ont., he now lives in Berlin and frequently works between Germany, Canada and Spain.
