About the artwork

“In some hopefully not-too-distant future time, the problem of plastic waste will have been solved. Our 20th and 21st-century production of unimaginable quantities of such waste will likely make no sense to the people in that future. Mississauga’s J. C. Saddington Park, for example, was created out on the lake as a landfill of buried waste. The objects that make up that waste reflect our current yesterdays, todays, and tomorrows. In the future, however, citizens of that green earth will discover these objects — we have two empty pedestals from long-gone statues to consider here. A local authority has provided three plaques to help those citizens understand these objects, and to understand that distant past — our present — to understand the story of plastic.” – Studio Wombling
