My name is Brittania. I am a Toronto-born artist, raised in the GTA, and educated at the University of Guelph and Humber College. In my home studio and workshop located in Mississauga, I create whimsical glass bottle multiples and mixed media landscapes on canvases with found objects and recycled materials, as well as home decor and accessories that range from simplistic beauty to fantastic costumes.
I try to ethically source my materials from local businesses and abroad while reusing materials to help give them a second life. I believe in the benefits of sustainability and the importance of local communities. I assemble all of my creations in my workspace, sampling from broken, discarded, and new materials to create one-of-a-kind items. I harvest what I can from my gardens and land, pick and press my own flowers, and up-cycle refuse from local factories and businesses.
I currently work at a local furniture shop where I help fabricate solid wood furniture. My residency will focus on reusing their scrap wood to explore the possible different arrangements and assemblies of modular off-cuts.
