Eva Pestrin is one of the current Resident Artists participating in the City of Mississauga’s Resident Artist Program at the Living Arts Centre.
Eva Pestrin is an interdisciplinary artist born in Toronto, Ontario, in 2002. With a focus on sculpture and installation, her work often combines mediums related to craft and domesticity with industrial materials such as metal, concrete, wood, and plaster. Through such material exploration, her work examines the relationship of art, craft, and construction.
Eva recently graduated with a BFA from Mount Allison University in 2024. During her time at Mount Allison she has received several financial awards for her art, including the 2022, Gibbens Lassonde Performance Award. Eva hopes to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in the near future to further expand her understanding and connection to her work and practice. Eva has participated in several group shows throughout Sackville NB. Both Productivity for Play and Outside In were produced by an artist group comprised of herself, and colleague, Lydia Paterson based out of St John NB. Both exhibitions worked to explore the social delineation of time and space.
Currently, Eva is working on expanding upon Copycat, an installation recently displayed in Bittersweet, presented by the Owens Art Gallery, NB. The work explores iteration and material connotation. It implores viewers to reflect upon the gendered history of material and craft and explore how cultural and societal norms implicate materials in patriarchal narratives, tastes, and visual languages.
