About the artist

Fangdan Chen is a Chinese artist based in Toronto. She graduated from the Illustration program at Sheridan College in 2021 and has worked as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. Her work focuses on text-based and contextualized images in fields such as editorial and commercial advertising. Some of her clients include The Baffler’s Mag, Echo creative Media, and Sansheng Art Gallery.

In many of her works, there are influences from automatic drawing and biomorphism, with the intention of creating dialogues around social-political influences in everyday life. She creates with the intention to curate shelter and community for others, to make people feel more connected to the world we live in and with other fellow humans.
