“My name is Jiaying Xu, but you can also call me Jean. I am a person full of curiosity. I am fascinated by the enchanting interplay of light and shadow and delighted by vibrant colors. Driven by my curiosity about the expressive forms of glass art, I studied glass courses at Sheridan College. As a photography enthusiast, the intertwining of light and shadow and the dazzling hues of glass under the sun are melodies that captivate my heart. In the second year after my graduation, I traveled across various art centers in China with my camera. This experience opened up a broader world for me, allowing me to experience local traditional cultures and inspiring countless intriguing ideas that I am eager to explore and realize. Now, I am curious about various materials. I hope to use my understanding and love for glass, combined with exploring other unknown materials, to create more interesting art. Through my knowledge of photography, I also want to document these moments and allow more people to witness and enjoy the beauty I bring. I am very excited to be a part of the Artist-in-Residence program. I believe that my art, combined with interactions, exchanges of ideas, and meaningful creations with other artists, will produce explosive chemistry. Thank you for considering my application. I eagerly look forward to contributing my creativity and passion to the Artist-in-Residence program and making a positive impact through my art.” – Jean Jiaying Xu
