National Indigenous Peoples Day at Celebration Square is back with the best in Indigenous music, culture, and tradition.

National Indigenous Peoples Day at Celebration Square is back with the best in Indigenous music, culture, and tradition. On Friday June 21st, join us as we renew 50 years of friendship between the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the City of Mississauga with an electric concert line-up, featuring headline performance by The Halluci Nation.

All programming in collaboration with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

The biggest names in Indigenous music hit the main stage to bring you a concert celebrating the past, present, and future of Indigenous cultures. From round dance to hip-hop, and pop to pow wow step, these artists will have you dancing and moving all evening long.

Event Schedule:

National Indigenous Peoples Day at Celebration Square has exciting activities for the entire family!

  • Enjoy an interactive live painting demo by Moses Lunham
  • Catch the premiere of a new large-scale artwork by Métis craftsperson, Sawmill Sid
  • Stop by the interactive Kids Corner and learn more about Indigenous languages spoken across Turtle island, featuring fun artwork created by Indigenous artists
  • Make a splash in the fountain, open 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Grab a bite from one of the food trucks, open noon to 10:00 p.m.

“I was asked if I would carve on this day. I thought about it. And I then just started getting a hold of people and starting then asking through my social media followers. And here we are today. The power of SawmillSid will show case an unbelievable spectrum of talent from all over Ontario and locally from Individuals and community groups of Mississauga. What an unbelievable creation we will have. Representing the 3 groups that make up the Indigenous culture. Paying respect to all the nations.”

Healing Blanket

Teacher, healer, altruist, storyteller and artist who is on a mission to make our world a better place to live. Sacha makes authentic Indigenous handmade healing blankets with the goal of wrapping a cozy healing hug around every person that could benefit from one. Sacha aims to have a ripple effect of love and joy spread across the world. To be a community pillar that fosters unity and to have those in need receive healing.  

The blanket displayed today is for everyone that lives and breathes on planet earth. May we create a world filled with love, peace, passion, joy and purpose. Let the healing begin!

Wood Turtle

As an inquisitive and adventurous child, Richard would watch his father Sculptor Andrew K. Posa work like a mad man chiselling away at giant blocks of marble and casting his own bronze sculptures. Now over 30 years later, he is a professional artist, having indulged and created in many medias and hundreds of projects. Salvaging his first tree in 2003, and since that day he has been sculpting and creating with the wood from those urban trees, driven by his love of trees and an indulgence into nature.

Stone Inlays Into Turtle Shells

James the Stonecarver is a stone whisperer, and creator of one of a kind custom carved stone creations. He has experience using a large variety of precious and semi precious stones to create inspired and unique pieces. His work has been showcased across Ontario.

King Bear

A skilled artist and arborist of thirty years, known for his expertise in mixed media art and realistic chainsaw carving. Each bespoke masterpiece is meticulously crafted using chainsaws, showcasing his dedication to perfection. Steve's talent for taking large logs/tree's, then turning them into something special so they have a new life for many more years is spectacular.

As a cancer survivor, having overcome much adversity in life, Steve's passion for carving has been his sanctuary, helping him overcome challenges and find solace.

The Three Sister’s Garden of Faith

Sawmill Sid is an award winning Indigenous, Environmental artist & sawyer known throughout North America for his craft of using only trees that have fallen due to storm and or disease. 
A champion of Mother Earth & life, his art is not that what you see, but leaves you thinking, talking and wondering long after you have left.
