Over the years, Mississauga has been home to many historically significant people and events. Mississauga is where Canada’s aerospace industry first took flight, where the world’s original spy came in from the cold, and where Colonel Sanders chose to live for some years. In recognition of Mississauga’s 50th anniversary, Visit Mississauga has partnered with award-winning journalist and writer Lisa Hrabluk (originally from Mississauga) to curate 50 untold stories from the last 50 years and beyond.
The series, titled We Built This City, is a collection of little-known stories about the interesting events, individuals and groups who have shaped Mississauga into the vibrant cultural canvas it is today.
Through the We Built This City series of original blogs and podcasts, join Lisa as she uncovers the past, sharing and celebrating the remarkable legacy of our city. The series unearths tales of passion, intrigue, heartbreak, curiosities, big dreams, small gifts – and even a little bit of rock and roll.
We Built This City launched online as a blog series earlier this year and has been releasing new chapters weekly.
A new We Built This City podcast series, created in partnership with Podstarter, also launched earlier this month, and is available for download wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes will be released weekly.
Whether you read the stories online or listen to the podcast, you’re sure to learn some new and fascinating history about Mississauga!
If you prefer to read the We Built This City stories in hard copy, all 50 stories will be published in a special anniversary edition of Your City magazine which will be free and available across the city later this fall. To reserve your very own copy of this special 50th anniversary memento, please submit your request online.
