Winter storm parking enforcement

City Council approved a Notice of Motion to streamline towing procedures for vehicles parked illegally during winter snow-clearing operations, aiming to improve efficiency and reduce delays in snow removal.

Key points of the motion:

  1. Vehicles parked on roads during winter storms hinder snow-clearing operations, increasing costs and access challenges for residents.
  2. Towing of illegally parked vehicles would occur after one penalty notice (reduced from three) during active winter maintenance.
  3. Directs staff to review points made in the motion and update Council at a future meeting.
  4. The City will collaborate with towing companies to implement the policy and deter illegal parking through faster towing response.

Proclamation of Bulgarian Heritage Day in Mississauga

City Council approved a Notice of Motion to annually proclaim March 3 as Bulgarian Heritage Day, recognizing the cultural contributions of Mississauga’s Bulgarian community.

Key points of the motion:

  1. Proclamation highlights Mississauga’s commitment to diversity, with over half its population born abroad and its residents speaking more than 100 languages.
  2. March 3 commemorates Bulgaria’s 1878 liberation, a pivotal moment in its national identity.
  3. Acknowledges the Bulgarian community’s role in enriching Mississauga’s social, cultural, and economic fabric.
  4. Proclamation includes an annual flag-raising ceremony at City Hall to mark the occasion.

Change to Planning and Development Committee meeting times

City Council approved a Notice of Motion to shift Planning and Development Committee (PDC) meetings to regular business hours (typically daytime), aligning with other municipal practices, while preserving options for evening sessions when necessary.

Key points of the motion:

  1. PDC will move to a 1:30 p.m. start effective April 14, 2025.
  2. Meetings will remain accessible via hybrid options for members, staff, and residents.
  3. Other Ontario cities hold planning meetings during daytime.
  4. The Chair may schedule special evening meetings if warranted or requested by Council members.
  5. City staff must notify the Ward Councillor when a matter is ready for PDC; the item will be added to the agenda and assigned a time (1:30 p.m. or 6 p.m.).
  6. The change requires updates to the Council Procedure By-law and PDC Terms of Reference.
