If you have thoughts on how we can create a healthier city that provides equitable access to services, we need your input!

We are developing an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and a Healthy City Strategy, and we need your input to ensure we are considering the things that are important to you.

Please join us at our Community Session on Thursday, October 24 to share your thoughts and ideas on:

  • how we move forward towards a healthier city through City services, initiatives, policies and programs, streets, parks and buildings.
  • barriers and recommendations for change to the City’s processes, practices and protocols related to how we provide services, employment, how we develop policies and how we purchase goods and services.

Your insights will help us move the City of Mississauga towards a healthier and more equitable city.

When:

Date: Thursday October 24

Time: 6 to 8 p.m.

Where:

Mississauga Valleys Community Centre, Larry Taylor Room

1275 Mississauga Valley Blvd, Mississauga, ON L5A 3R8

Background:

Healthy City Strategy

Mississauga has some of the higher rates of Type 2 Diabetes in the province. As rates are projected to continue to increase, the City is developing a strategy to reduce the risk and burden of Type 2 Diabetes. The development of a Mississauga (Diabetes) Healthy City Strategy will guide risk reduction and ways to improve how we live, work and play to decrease the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in Mississauga. The City has developed a draft strategy with input from previous consultations and is now seeking input on the draft strategy.

Empowering Change: A Comprehensive EDI Strategy

The City of Mississauga is committed to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI) and addressing racism and oppression within processes, practices and protocols. In April 2024, the City launched the Empowering Change: A Comprehensive EDI Strategy: 2024-2030 project to guide our EDI efforts. We have now partnered with the Diversity Institute to focus on four key areas. Participants will provide input on barriers and recommendations related to:

  • the City as an employer
  • the City as a service provider
  • the City as a policy maker and
  • the City as a purchaser of goods and services.
