June is Recreation and Parks Month

Entertainment and activities | June 1, 2021

June is Recreation and Parks Month (JRPM) in Mississauga. We’re celebrating by encouraging everyone to get out and explore Mississauga’s magnificent green spaces. With more than 500 parks, 393 km of trails, 266 playgrounds and 7,853 acres of parkland, our parks are spaces for everyone to enjoy!

There are many hidden gems throughout Mississauga, which support multiple outdoor leisure activities. As summer draws near, try out one of Mississauga’s many trails  – you may see some blue jays, woodpeckers, cardinals and some of the other beautiful birds or wildlife that make the city their home. Whether you’re going out for a morning jog, an evening walk, a brisk workout or looking to connect with nature, the City’s trails are the perfect location for you.

You may want to try some of our wonderful multi-use trails like those near RiverwoodBurnhamthorpe Trail and Lake Aquitaine Trail. They allow you to enjoy the natural sounds and views that can have a relaxing and calming effect on your day.

Mississauga’s parks are an excellent opportunity for photographers of all levels, capturing both the splendour of nature and man-made features such as landscapes, sculptures and urban design. The majestic trees and colourful flowers are a photographer’s dream.

If you’re a bike enthusiast, we have you covered. Mississauga has added many bike lanes to our streets, and our network of bike trails span the entire city. Whether you seek an active way to get to work or little adventurous biking, Mississauga has a path for you – try Mississauga’s cycling map.

Being physically active is good for physical and mental health. If you prefer recreation or fitness, City parks are great for individual yoga and meditation sessions. If you’re looking to be more active at home, you can check out the City’s ‘Stay home stay active’ webpage to access online videos, nutritional tips, home workouts, and family fun activities for all ages and abilities.

If you’re into sports, our Lakeview Golf Course and BraeBen Golf Course and driving range are open and accepting tee times. If you prefer some family time and enjoy virtual activities, try our Family Fun Corner. It is always creative and fun for all ages. The City also offers a number of outdoor amenities open to residents to enjoy such as spray pads, skateboard parks, BMX parks, batting cages, sports courts (basketball, tennis) and sport fields (soccer, softball). Team sports or any other sports or games that involve coming within two metres of each other are not to be practised or played at this time.

Stay up-to-date and informed about provincial guidelines for outdoor recreation and recreational amenities as they may change. If outside, please follow all health and safety COVID-19 guidelines by staying two metres apart from those not in your household and wearing a face covering or mask when physical distancing cannot be maintained.

Let’s all get out and enjoy our marvellous recreation amenities, parks and trails. The City of Mississauga has a great resource to explore and find many parks, please visit mississauga.ca/parks and mississauga.ca/recreation.
