It’s time to bundle up with a winter jacket, boots, gloves, a warm toque and head outdoors. If you’re wondering what to do when it snows, the City has some fun ideas for everyone. Make the most of these winter months by spending quality time outside in fresh air. In addition to having fun, being physically active outdoors will increase your exposure to natural light and uplift your mood. Not sure what to do? Check out some suggestions below:

Port Credit Memorial Park Skate Trail (40 Lakeshore Rd. E.)

This free skating loop is open every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., weather permitting. Driving over? Parking is shared with the Port Credit Library and the Port Credit Memorial Arena.

Woodhurst Heights Outdoor Rink (3475 Ash Row Crescent)

This neighbourhood rink will open daily from dawn until 11 p.m., weather permitting. This rink offers open skates, fun skates and a Hockey Stick and Puck scheduled programming. Woodhurst is the only outdoor rink offering the hockey stick and puck drop-in program.

Outdoor rinks may need to close temporarily during periods of heavy snow or warmer temperatures. To confirm a rink is open, call 905-615-3200 ext. R-I-N-K (7465).

Natural skating rinks

Thanks to dedicated resident volunteers, natural rinks are built, operated and maintained in select neighbourhood parks. Please keep in mind that these skating rinks are naturally formed. Their condition largely depends on the temperature and overall weather. Don’t forget to bring your skates as there are no skate rentals available.

Mississauga has 27 natural rinks, find one in your neighbourhood today. Please note that in Mississauga, skating on frozen lakes, stormwater ponds, streams, tributaries and even Lake Ontario is not allowed for safety reasons. Ice can be unpredictable.

Coming soon: winter walking and snowshoeing trail at Lakeview Golf Course

From Monday, January 6 to Sunday, March 9, visit Lakeview Golf Course. Walk or use snowshoes on the two marked trails (North & South loops). An outdoor portable washroom will be available beside the clubhouse. Once you park, there will be signs to help direct you to the trail heads.

Toboggan/sledding hills

One of the best ways to enjoy fresh snow fall is by tobogganing down a hill. Mississauga has six toboggan hills for you to enjoy, safely. Find a hill near you:

When heading downhill, remember to keep arms and legs tucked in, sit face-forward (going down the hill face-first can lead to a serious head injury). Never attempt to stand on a sled either, sleds are not an alternative for snowboarding or something you should try for fun.

In the snow and on ice, safety comes first. Dress for the weather, layer up, stay hydrated and warm on colder days and enjoy the winter weather as a Mississauga resident!
