Mississauga Named a Smart21 Community of the Year

Business and innovation | March 3, 2021

The Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) has selected the City of Mississauga as one of the Smart21 Communities of the Year. The Smart21 announcement is the first stage in ICF’s annual Intelligent Community Awards cycle. ICF selects 21 finalists to receive this recognition, based on a survey of communities from around the world.

“We are very proud that as a Smart City, Mississauga has been recognized globally as one of the top Intelligent Communities of the Year,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “This further demonstrates that our City is the most connected in Canada, and the importance of our ongoing efforts to utilize technology to create a high quality of life that supports all of our residents.”

As one of the Smart21 cities, Mississauga is among the group of finalists from which Forum’s Top7 Intelligent Communities of the Year will be chosen in June 2021.

“Being awarded a place among this year’s Smart21 is international recognition of Mississauga’s ongoing dedication to furthering Smart City policies and innovations,” said Shawn Slack, Director of IT and Chief Information Officer. “Being acknowledged as an Intelligent Community leader is validation for all that Mississauga is doing to create a Smart City for everyone.”
