The City of Mississauga is entering into a 25-year agreement with Mattamy Homes to rename the Churchill Meadows Sports Park. Under the new agreement, the park will be called the Mattamy Sports Park as of July 2022. As part of the signed agreement, Mattamy Homes will be given the naming rights to the 57-acre sports park.
Officially opened to the public in October 2021, the Churchill Meadows Sports Park is located at 5320 Ninth Line (north of Erin Centre Boulevard) in Ward 10 next to the Churchill Meadows Community Centre.
“I am thrilled about this substantial investment in our community and it demonstrates Mattamy Homes’ tremendous partnership in building not just houses where people can live and thrive, but also building complete communities,” said Ward 10 Councillor Sue McFadden. “The funds associated with this agreement will kick start construction on Phase 2 of the newly named Mattamy Sports Park, making it that much more of an attractive destination for our residents, teams and for tournaments.”
The year-round use sports park is designed for all ages and abilities and offers a variety of recreational and leisure activities. The park currently includes tournament-level sport fields with two soccer fields, a playground, spray pad, skate park, multi-purpose court, outdoor fitness equipment and trails.
“We’re excited to partner with Mattamy Homes on this agreement to name our newest sports park,” said Jodi Robillos, Commissioner of Community Services. “We’ll be installing signage on the seasonal dome over Outdoor Field 1, updating wayfinding and park signage, the City’s website and other promotional materials to reflect the park’s new name. We look forward to sharing many exciting moments with residents and visitors who come to play, use and compete at the new sports park. This partnership will help us bring in more opportunities to Mississauga.”
Future development (Phase 2) of the Mattamy Sports Park will see a full-sized lit cricket pitch, another multi-purpose sports field, tennis courts and a leash-free zone.
“Supporting the communities where we do business and playing a role in providing healthy and active lifestyle opportunities for families, are important priorities for us at Mattamy Homes,” says Tim Warner, Senior Vice President at Mattamy. “We are proud to be partnering with the City of Mississauga on the sports park project and look forward to continuing to be part of the community for many years to come.”
