Mississauga’s new Official Plan to guide growth and development citywide

City building | February 12, 2024

The City is preparing to finalize its new Official Plan to guide how Mississauga will grow and develop over the next 25 years. From housing and transportation to the environment and economy, the Official Plan includes important policies that help to shape our city.

As we work to finalize the plan, the City is hosting two community meetings for the public to learn more, ask questions and share comments.

To date, public input has played an important part in shaping the policies that make up the new Official Plan, including:

  • Where housing, industry, offices and shops should go
  • Which services and amenities such as parks, schools, roads, trails and transit are needed
  • How we protect the city’s culture, heritage and environment
  • How the city should grow and what growth will look like

The draft Official Plan will be available on the City’s website for review before or after the community meetings.

Background

Every 10 years, the City reviews and updates the Official Plan to ensure it reflects Mississauga’s changing needs and provincial direction. To date, staff have shared three sets of updated Official Plan draft policies for public feedback.

The complete draft Official Plan will be posted online the week of February 12th. In addition to the upcoming community meetings, a Statutory Public Meeting will be held at the City’s Planning and Development Committee this spring.

The new Official Plan will come into effect once it adopted by City Council and approved by the Region of Peel.
