The MiWay Student Ambassador Program, renowned for its inclusive approach to educating students about the advantages of taking public transit, proudly announces the winners of this year’s competition. The program not only highlights the benefits of using MiWay as a sustainable transportation option at any age but also fosters essential skills in leadership, communication, and teamwork among its participants.
Throughout the program, student ambassadors have the opportunity to earn volunteer hours and rewards while learning about MiWay routes, accessing transit information, and providing valuable feedback directly to MiWay. This initiative reflects MiWay’s commitment to engaging with the youth of Mississauga and encouraging a new generation of public transit users.
“Embracing public transit as a young adult isn’t just about getting from point A to point B; it’s about taking a step towards independence, sustainability, and connectedness. Whether it’s the ride to school, a community centre, or to see friends and family, each ride is an opportunity to reduce your carbon footprint, engage with your community, and inspire your peers to do the same,” said Eve Wiggins, Director of Transit.
This year’s competition saw enthusiastic participation from students across Mississauga, with notable achievements:
The MiWay Ambassador Program will kick off this September and continue engaging students during the 2024-2025 school year. More than 70 applications from 29 high schools have already been received, and the deadline for applications is Friday, May 31. MiWay extends its sincere congratulations to all winners and participants for their dedication and creativity in promoting public transit within their communities.
