COVID-19 | March 31, 2020
Health experts at all levels of government remind residents to employ physical distancing to limit the spread of COVID-19. Peel Regional Police along with Peel Public Health and Peel Emergency Management have maintained regular communication to ensure that we are working together to safeguard against the transmission of the virus to keep our community safe.
Recently, legislation was passed designating essential versus non-essential business, and allowed non-essential businesses to close and allow staff to self-isolate with their families to limit exposure to COVID-19.
If residents in Brampton or Mississauga wish to report a non-compliant business, the use of city owned facilities that are closed (other than essential services) or gatherings of more than 5 people, we ask the community to contact 3-1-1. A by-law enforcement officer and/or security personnel will investigate the complaint to ensure compliance with the orders set out by the respective governments and may lay charges when appropriate.
If residents in Brampton or Mississauga wish to report a non-compliant food establishment such as a bar or restaurant, we ask the community to report to Peel Public Health at 905-799-7700.
If there is an emergency that requires immediate police presence, dial 9-1-1. For information on what is an emergency versus a non-emergency, please visit the Peel Regional Police website.
For a list of non-essential business, please visit Ontario.ca. If you would like more information on COVID-19, residents in the region can visit the Region of Peel COVID-19 website.

QUOTES:
“As we continue to combat this pandemic we are working with the Regional Public Health office, the cities of Mississauga and Brampton, and other partners to reduce the spread of COVID-19. This new and unprecedented normal requires us to be adaptable to find the best outcome, which includes following the advice of health experts. The women and men of Peel Regional Police will continue to deliver quality policing services to residents, while ensuring orders set out by all levels of government are adhered to.”
– Nishan Duraiappah, Chief of Police for Peel Regional Police
“In Peel, we have the benefit of learning from other jurisdictions where COVID-19 has hit hard and fast and that lesson is clear. The only effective strategy against COVID-19 is to work together, as we never have before, to keep people physically apart. Protect yourself and your community by staying home except for the most essential necessities, maintaining physical distance and reporting non-compliance to authorities.”
– Dr. Lawrence Loh, Interim Medical Officer of Health for Region of Peel
“Unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures. We are doing everything we can to help limit exposure, encourage physical distancing and keep our residents safe. It is my hope that non-essential businesses have complied with the province’s directive and that residents respect our facility closures, including those on playgrounds, courts and park amenities. We know this isn’t easy but together, we’ll get through this,”
– Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of Mississauga
“Residents in Peel Region need to stay home and businesses need to support this Public Health direction. There is no excuse in our current environment to be gathering with others or to be facilitating gatherings as a business. I am encouraged to see by-law enforcement and our police service taking steps to hold non-compliant businesses accountable so we can to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Brampton and Peel Region.”
– Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton
