What’s in bloom and when?

The spring season in Mississauga is brightly colored with the blooms. Here are a few to keep an eye out for.

Wildflowers [Spring-early summer]

The city’s gardens, green spaces and natural areas are home to a wide array of wildflowers, including Black-eyed Susans, Purple Coneflowers, and Trilliums, Ontario’s provincial flower. These wild beauties offer a kaleidoscope of colours throughout the warmer months.

Lilacs [Spring-early summer]

Lilacs are hardy, fragrant flowering bushes, often seen in shades of pink, purple, and white. They add softness and height to gardens, with most varieties reaching up to 10 feet tall.

Rhododendrons [Spring-early summer]

Rhododendrons are bell-shaped flowers that grow on a bush. Their flowers grow in round clusters at the ends of branches. Rhododendrons usually bloom later in the spring.

In addition to rhododendrons, enjoy the azaleas and rhododendrons surrounded by white pines, perennials, and shrubs.

Hydrangeas [Late summer]

Although there are many types of hydrangeas, most can be grown in full sun or partial shade. Hydrangeas are elegant plants that are easy to cultivate, tolerate almost any type of soil and produce abundant blooms. Hydrangeas come in a variety of colours including white, blue, pink and purple blossoms.
