In Canada, winter brings snow. This can vary from light flurries to significant snowfall.
Snow clearing efforts are an essential part of the City’s winter operations, ensuring the safety and accessibility of roads and sidewalks throughout Mississauga.
As snow begins to accumulate, teams are deployed to clear major roadways and residential streets, using a fleet of snow plows and brine trucks to manage ice and snow buildup. The City prioritizes clearing routes that lead to schools, hospitals, and public transit. Crews also work to clear sidewalks and pedestrian paths, ensuring that residents can navigate their neighbourhoods safely.

The City follows a priority route system. Before residential roads are cleared, the City clears priority roads, which are routes for emergency vehicles, transit and high traffic volume, and priority sidewalks, which are located along major roads and bus routes, outside of schools, hospitals and long-term care homes.
When a Significant Weather Event is declared, service-level timing starts after the declaration is lifted, instead of when the snow stops. It can take 12 to 24 hours to clear priority infrastructure after the declaration has been lifted. This includes priority roads and sidewalks, bus stops, on-street bike lanes, roadside multi-use trails and pedestrian crossings. Residential roads are cleared next, within 24 to 36 hours after the declaration has been lifted.
During snow clearing operations, temporary parking permits are suspended and residents are asked to remove parked vehicles from their street so that crews can work safely and efficiently.
