Stick to your New Year’s resolutions – let the City help!

New Year’s resolutions don’t have to be made to be broken. You can stick to them and the City of Mississauga can help.

While it’s easier to stay focused on new goals in January, the real challenge lies in maintaining the momentum throughout the year. As February approaches, people may find themselves in need of some extra motivation and resources to keep up with their resolutions. If your New Year’s resolutions are along the lines of getting healthier, prioritizing self-care, being more active, learning new skills, starting a business or giving back to others, the City can help.

Improve your health

Achieving your health and fitness goals requires consistency throughout the year. If you’re wondering how to become more active, don’t forget to look at programs and classes offered on activemississauga.ca.

There are a several options for yourself or your family members:

  • Discover fitness memberships that are flexible and affordable

Consider one of five recreational memberships to enjoy a variety of classes and unlimited access to amenities. All-in memberships are  a great value, available in 1, 3 or 12 month terms which include: a 45 minute consultation with a personal trainer, therapeutic land and water drop-in classes, access to warm water therapeutic pools, fully equipped fitness centres with weight rooms and cardiovascular equipment, weekly drop in or virtual group exercise classes and so much more!

Amenities and programs vary by location. No fee for membership cancellation.

  • Take it easy with Mississauga’s Wellness programs

If you’re just looking to begin your fitness journey, you have the option to start with gentle therapeutic and wellness programs. These programs are ideal for beginners, individuals recovering from injuries or people managing chronic conditions. You can also consider a Wellness membership or just drop-in for added flexibility.

  • Register for recreational and cultural programs

Mississauga’s recreational and cultural programs are always in demand and well attended. Start planning the year ahead and preview spring and summer programs on February 5 on Active Mississauga. Remember to create or update your account with your most up-to-date information.

Resident registration begins starts on February 20 at 6 a.m.

Non-resident registration starts February 26 at 6 a.m.

Learn new skills

It’s never been easier to learn something new with the help of Craftsy, an online learning platform included with your Mississauga Library card membership. Whether you enjoy baking, sewing or other activities, Craftsy has helpful tutorials with easy to follow instructions.

Start a small business

IDEA Mississauga is a central resource for small business information, training, programs and guidance to help you start or grow your business today.

Explore the outdoors

If you spend lots of time indoors and one of your goals is to feel more connected to your community, get outside!  Even during the winter months, taking in some sunshine and forming a connection with nature can help you feel revitalized. There are more than 500 parks to explore in Mississauga – many of them offer a distinct and unique experience.

Give back

The generosity of volunteers helps make Mississauga a better city for all. If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to increase your sense of fulfilment while making a positive impact around you, look no further than the City’s volunteering opportunities. Remember to check for volunteer roles often throughout the year, to see where help is needed most.

No matter what your goals are for 2024, be kind to yourself and take the time you need to achieve whatever is on your New Year’s resolutions list. Not all resolutions need to be grand or life changing; small, achievable goals can also contribute to personal growth and satisfaction. By engaging with the community, you may come across other people with similar goals and interests and find it easier to improve on your goals, together.
