Visit Mississauga is excited to release a special edition of Your City Mississauga magazine. Written by award-winning writer, Lisa Hrabluk, this issue is filled with incredible tales of the City’s rich history. Readers can explore key historical moments and learn about the City’s hidden gems, along with stories that celebrate the events, people and milestones that have helped shape Mississauga over the last 50 years.

This special issue of Your City Mississauga compiles excerpts of the 50 tell-all tales featured in the blog and podcast series, “We Built This City.” The series was spearheaded by Visit Mississauga last year in celebration of Mississauga’s 50th anniversary. Through captivating stories and personal memories, the free magazine commemorates the lives and achievements of the people who have left a lasting mark on our community and the world. From renowned public figures to the unsung everyday heroes of local industries and wartime efforts, each story explores Mississauga’s rich history, and many global firsts.

For instance, did you know that Colonel Sanders – the iconic face of KFC – once called Mississauga home? Or that Canada’s first commercial winery was housed right in Cooksville? Readers can discover how Mississauga’s aerospace industry introduced cutting-edge technology in the 1950s, leaving a mark that still impacts the aviation industry today. Or learn about Jerry Brown, a reggae pioneer who will forever be celebrated as one of the founding fathers of Canada’s reggae scene. Read all 50 stories and learn more about some well-known names like Mazo de la Roche, Oscar Peterson, and even The Beatles.

Whether you’re into history, a resident, or simply curious about Mississauga’s history, this commemorative issue of Your City Mississauga is a must-read and a keeper.
