Visit Mississauga, the destination marketing organization dedicated to promoting the city of Mississauga as a visitor destination, is proud to celebrate February 19, 2025, as Destination Professionals Day to honour the people and organizations that drive tourism, economic growth and community vitality worldwide.
Destinations International is launching this initiative to gain recognition for the important contributions of the sector and those who work in it by promoting the annual celebration of February 19 as “Destination Professionals Day.” The first observance is February 19, 2025.
Recognizing February 19 as Destination Professionals Day aims to raise awareness by highlighting the vital contributions of destination professionals in enriching community life and driving economic development; celebrate the achievements and recognize the hard work and dedication of destination professionals across all roles and organizations; and inspire future destination leaders by showcasing the diverse and rewarding career opportunities available in the sector to attract the next generation of professionals.
The selection of February 19 as Destination Professionals Day pays homage to the founding of the first destination organization 129 years ago that sparked a global movement that continues to transform destinations like Mississauga into ideal places to visit, live, work, play and invest.
Today, there are more than 10,000 destination organizations around the world representing a broad spectrum of entities, including destination marketing organizations (DMOs), tourism boards, sports commissions and film offices. These organizations are a cornerstone of the travel and tourism industry, which employs almost 348 million people and was expected to contribute about 10 per cent of global GDP – more than $11 trillion – to the global economy in 2024, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council.
Founded in June 2020, Visit Mississauga is one of Canada’s newest DMOs. Prior to which, Mississauga was managed by Destination Toronto as part of RTO5 (regional tourism office). Since then, Visit Mississauga has grown into a team of 10 sales and marketing professionals, and is led CEO Victoria Clarke, CDME, and a board of directors.
Visit Mississauga’s commitment to promoting Mississauga continues to put the city on the map as a top destination for business, leisure, and sport tourism. Their efforts have secured major events like the Jackalope Action Sports Festival, APIK Winter Sport Festival, the 2025 CPKC Women’s Open, and the 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, strengthening Mississauga’s reputation as a world-class destination. It is major events like these that help to drive the economic impact of tourism in Mississauga, giving visitors a reason to spend more time and money in Mississauga.
Visit Mississauga is the official destination marketing organization (DMO) for the City of Mississauga. The organization is industry-led and responsible for developing a tourism strategy and leading tourism marketing and development efforts for Mississauga. Visit Mississauga is committed to implementing the City of Mississauga’s Tourism Master Plan, promoting local businesses and co-ordinating large-scale events within the city.
