Canada-U.S. trade tensions: Mississauga responds and calls for federal collaboration

As trade tensions between Canada and the U.S. escalate, Mississauga is taking action to support local businesses and protect jobs.

Through our Partners in Trade campaign, the City has launched a series of initiatives including amending its Procurement By-law to prioritize Canadian and non-U.S. suppliers, advocating for businesses and providing supports, and encouraging residents to buy Canadian wherever possible through the Choose Canada campaign.

What Mississauga is advocating for

As part of its advocacy strategy for the upcoming federal election, Mississauga is urging the federal government to work collaboratively with municipalities and provinces to reduce the economic fallout of tariffs. The City is also partnering with business associations such as the Mississauga Board of Trade and Export Development Canada to help local businesses navigate the challenges ahead.

With potential job losses and rising costs on both sides of the border, Mississauga leaders are calling for all levels of government to work together to support Canadian businesses and ensure economic stability during this period of uncertainty.
