Bringing a bright spark of joy and illuminating winter’s dark nights with colour, this annual event kicks-off the season at the Square on Saturday, November 23 with the first official lighting of the Christmas tree, and the opening of the City’s largest outdoor ice rink (weather dependent).
The winter magic doesn’t stop there. Mississauga’s Celebration Square will be home to dazzling art installations for the holiday season. Visit the Square to experience a unique Mississauga presentation of moonGARDEN by Lucion. The Square is also home to a special 50th anniversary projection mapping installation on the Hazel McCallion Central Library façade.
Featuring kids entertainment and live musical acts from local favourites to rising pop sensations.
The dazzling marquee light installation, moonGARDEN will call Celebration Square home from November 23, 2024 through to January 6, 2025. Created in 2012 by Lucion, moonGARDEN has seen by more than a million people, touring the world, from Lyon’s Fête des Lumières to Brussels, Medellin, Beijing, and now Mississauga.
Featuring four majestic spheres that host delicate shadow theatres and soundscapes, this light installation is without doubt an invitation to dream, and celebrates a more inclusive world.
In collaboration with AVA Animation and Visual Arts Inc., Mississauga artists will transform the north façade of the Hazel McCallion Central Library into a giant canvas for large-scale 3D projection mapping over the Light Up the Square weekend in November.
Through a series of workshops, selected artists have been learning new digital art skills and will bring their artwork celebrating Mississauga’s 50th anniversary to life through projection mapping.
Enjoy this momentous exhibition between 6 to 10 pm nightly from November 22 to 24.
