Borrow, renew, return an item

What you can borrow

You can borrow books, magazines, DVDs, video games, CDs and more from the library. Most books, CDs, DVDs and video games can be borrowed for three weeks. Most magazines, regular movies and Lucky Day can be borrowed for one week. You can have up to 100 items on a library card at one time. Some collections have additional borrowing limits.

You can borrow ebooks, magazines, stream movies, music and more using one of the Library’s apps or online collections.

Renewing

You can renew items in person, through your online library account or by phone at 905-615-3500, option 2.

Lightning loans (current bestsellers) cannot be renewed. Magazines can only be renewed once. All other library materials can be renewed up to five times in a row.

If the item you’re renewing has been requested by someone else, you’ll get a notification in the catalogue that you won’t be able to renew it.

Returning

The date on which items are due back at the library are printed on your receipt when you check out. You can also sign up for email notifications to remind you when an item is due for return.

Items can be returned to any of the Mississauga library locations. If you return an item after hours, you can use the 24 hour book drop located at most locations.

Unavailable items

If an item you want to borrow is not available, you can place a hold and we’ll notify you when it becomes available.

If you want to borrow an item that’s not in the catalogue, you can use the inter-library loan to request it from another library.
