MiWay is installing larger bus shelters with new amenities along some major roads.
Many of these enhanced shelters will be installed on Erin Mills Parkway, Southdown Road, Dixie Road, Derry Road, Goreway Drive and Burnhamthorpe Road.
The first three of these enhanced shelters were installed in May 2023 on:
- Erin Mills Parkway (west side) at Leanne Blvd (stop #0526)
- Dixie Road (east side), north of Dundas Street (stop #1355); and
- Dixie Road (east side), south of Burnhamthorpe Road (stop #1359)
These enhanced shelters offer several benefits:
- A larger shelter size – eight or 12 metres long compared to the standard four metres
- More seating available inside
- Signage that identifies the bus stop location
- Heated and enclosed shelter space for added comfort during colder weather
- Coming soon – digital screens with bus schedule information
Over the next five years, MiWay will implement a shelter replacement program at locations with higher service frequencies.
Where possible, standard shelters that are replaced by enhanced shelters will be refurbished and used at other locations.
