Starting July 16, customers can add a digital PRESTO card to Apple Wallet and tap their iPhone or Apple Watch to ride on MiWay and throughout the region.
PRESTO cards in Apple Wallet take full advantage of the privacy and security built into iPhone and Apple Watch, and you can enjoy the convenience of paying your transit fare with an Apple device. PRESTO in Apple Wallet costs $0 and there is no administration fee.
There are two ways a customer can get a digital PRESTO card in their Apple Wallet:
- Add a new digital PRESTO card to your PRESTO account using the PRESTO app (for customers who want to keep using their physical card).
- Convert an existing physical PRESTO card into a digital version using Apple Wallet. Once you convert a physical card to a digital version, your physical PRESTO card will be cancelled.
A physical PRESTO card that is converted to a digital PRESTO card in Apple Wallet will retain most account details. This includes: fare type (e.g. Senior), balance, and card settings (e.g. autoload or auto-renew contracts).
Customers can use the PRESTO app on their Apple device to load funds to their PRESTO in Apple Wallet, set up autoload or add a MiWay adult monthly pass – you don’t need to visit a Customer Service Outlet.
PRESTO in Apple Wallet supports youth, adult and senior fare types; however, the child fare type (ages 6 to 12) is not supported. To set a fare type on your PRESTO card, visit a Customer Service Outlet.
Benefits of PRESTO in Apple Wallet
- If you misplace your iPhone or Apple Watch, you can use the Find My app to lock and help locate the device and suspend your PRESTO in Apple Wallet or remotely erase the device and its cards.
- With Express Mode enabled on your PRESTO in Apple Wallet, you can simply tap your device on a PRESTO reader and ride — without the need to wake or unlock your device.
- If your iPhone needs a charge, your PRESTO in Apple Wallet can still work. Power Reserve on an Apple device provides up to five hours of support.
Things to know before you convert a physical card to a digital card:
- Once your physical PRESTO card is converted to PRESTO in Mobile Wallet, you won’t be able to access and manage the physical card using the website. Also, your transaction history will not be carried over.
- Your PRESTO in Mobile Wallet card can only be active on one device at a time. If it is active on your watch but you want to use it on your phone, you will need to remove it from your watch first and then add it back to your phone.
- The Child fare type (ages 6-12) is not available with PRESTO in Apple Wallet. On MiWay, kids 6 to 12 can ride free on MiWay when they have a physical PRESTO card set to pay the Child Fare type.
