Starting May 2, you can use a debit card or the mobile wallet on your smartphone or watch to pay the $4 cash fare on MiWay. Your debit card must have the tap payment feature enabled. Note that additional banking fees may apply depending on your banking plan.
You can also make an open payment on MiWay with a contactless credit card. However, prepaid credit cards and gift cards will not work.
With open payment, you simply tap your debit card, credit card, smartphone or watch on the PRESTO card reader when you board the bus.
Use the same open payment method throughout your trip, so you don’t pay multiple fares. The PRESTO card readers will know which open payment method you used within the transfer period.
The Senior $1 fare and other discounted concession fares are not available through open payment – using a PRESTO card is still the best way to pay your fare on MiWay. Paying your fare with PRESTO is less expensive than the $4 cash fare, and there are other benefits too.
